Check the product, not just the brand

Distinguish the fund trustee, product issuer, investment option and adviser or distributor. An SMSF property-finance service is not the same as a retail super fund.

Before taking a next step, confirm that applications and transfers are currently available. Read current notices as well as the PDS; marketing pages and older documents can describe different stages of a product’s availability.

Understand before changing

Changing super can affect fees, investments and insurance. A label is not enough to establish suitability. Read the current product documents and consider seeking appropriately licensed advice.

Ask for current documents

Identify the trustee, product issuer and investment option. Ask who reviews Sharia alignment, which holdings or activities are screened, and how often that review happens.

  • Read the current Product Disclosure Statement and relevant target market determination.
  • Compare costs and investment risks, not just past returns.
  • Check insurance cover and consequences of switching.
  • Verify that the product is currently open and available.

Can Mizan check my existing super?

Mizan cannot certify your super as Sharia compliant or recommend switching. It can help you prepare questions and locate the information you should review.
